Eunice joined high school in 2019 with a full scholarship from WSI. She came from a local primary school, where she lived with her mother in a small, two room apartment. Moving to a boarding school was quite an adjustment for her, but she perservered and found her footing. She enjoyed singing at school and cooking with her mom when she was at home on holiday. By the time she graduated in 2022, in her words, she "became a responsible lady of substance." She wrote to WSI supporters, "Your genorosity amazes me."
Singing in 2019
Eunice was determined to continue her education so she could earn a good living. She joined university in Kenya, but had her sights set on a bigger leap. With the assistance of her mother and older sister, she worked to attain admission to a US college, and ultimately got accepted to Minnesota State. Then, she had to apply for a US Student Visa. There is a quota on visas, so even for applicants who meet all of the criteria, granting a visa is up to the discretion of the embassy officer. After an intense, all-day interview, she got the word: She received a visa and would study in the United States.
In August 2024, she took the first plane flight of her life and flew from Nairobi, Kenya to Minneapolis, Minnesota. During her first term there, she had to adapt to an entirely new culture (and a new season: winter!). Once again, she perservered and found success. After completing the first term, during winter break she transferred to a school in Seattle, where she has family. She is studying nursing with plans to become a nurse and repay the support that her mother and so many others have given her to make her journey possible.
"Thanks once again for the support, it really made a real difference for me."
