WSI is thrilled to announce its largest incoming class ever: twelve new high school students beginning their journeys this year. They are seven girls — Valary, Agnes, Maxmila, Mitchelle, Marion, Juliana, and Elsie — and five boys: Victor, John, Joel, Joseph, and Meshack.
These students were among the very top graduates of their eighth grade classes and were selected for a full scholarship to high school based on outstanding academic performance and demonstrated financial need. All twelve are from the East Pokot region of Kenya — an arid, rural area where many families herd livestock and live without electricity, running water, or many modern conveniences. For these students, attending high school is a transformative opportunity to pursue their education and build a future for themselves and their families.
This large class comes after a one-year pause in admissions — not by WSI's choice, but because Kenya itself paused high school enrollment. The country transitioned its education system from a four-year high school program to a three-year one, meaning no students entered high school anywhere in Kenya during the transition year. WSI is proud to be making up for lost time with its biggest class yet, and we look forward to following these twelve young people as they grow into fine young adults.
